Courtyard Pool Fountain with a Carved Limestone Tazza

A large octagonal pool fountain seen where it belongs, in a working courtyard. The pool wall is panelled with recessed fluted pilasters at each angle and finished with a broad flat coping wide enough to sit on. At its centre a carved tazza bowl spreads on a short baluster stem, its underside worked with palmette scrolls and a lion mask at the shoulder. The limestone has bleached pale in the sun and holds a fine open pitting across the coping. Suited to courtyards, entrance forecourts and estate gardens built around a single still pool.
